When you think of places to see art in Miami, you probably think of museums, exhibitions, and art shows. There are a number of these types of venues in the city, but if you want to see the arts in a whole new way, head over to the infamous arts district of Wynwood and check out the Wynwood Walls.

What are the Wynwood Walls?

An open park, the Wynwood Walls are comprised of giant walls filled with beautiful art across six buildings. It's like walking into an outdoor museum with art painted on the walls! Here, you get to experience the work of artists from all over the world, adding to the vibrancy of multicultural Miami. In addition to astonishing artworks, the Wynwood Walls also provide cool backdrops for your Instagram photos. The best part about visiting this popular Miami destination is that it's absolutely free and open year-round!

Over 50 artists from 16 countries contribute to the Wynwood Walls, which continually change and evolve. You'll likely see completely different murals each time you visit the walls! One of the artists, Aiko, was born and raised in Tokyo then moved to New York in the mid-90s. She actually created "Women on the Wall Project" with the help of her best friends, and the mural takes a twist on the classic Dotonbori Glico sign as the well-blended artwork features women. Aiko's style is rich with influences from Japanese culture and strong feminine elements, making her mural one of my favorites at the Wynwood Walls.

Other noteworthy artists who have graced the Wynwood Walls are Cryptik and DALeast, whose styles come together in perfect harmony on a collaboration mural. DALeast's side of the mural features animals and humans while Cryptik's side has beautiful Arabic and Hindi calligraphy, together conveying a spiritual and peaceful energy using black and gold as main colors.

Many popular artists like Lady Pink, Maya Hayuk, and OS Gemeos have also painted murals at the Wynwood Walls. Some murals have stayed in the same spot for years, but there will also be new ones debuting during Art Basel, a popular art festival in Miami. You can always expect to see something new at the Wynwood Walls!

Not only do the Wynwood Walls offer incredible sights, but they are also the host of monthly events including a late-night street party and art festival called the Wynwood Art Walk. On the second Saturday of every month, you can enjoy food trucks, drinks, and live music while browsing art galleries and other stores that are open late.
